Tan Tarn How is a Singaporean playwright, children's book author, and senior research fellow at the Institute of Policy Studies, Singapore. He formerly worked as a teacher, journalist, scriptwriter, policy researcher, and arts activist.
From 1997 to 1999, Tan was Head Scriptwriter for Drama Production at the Singapore Television Corporation (now MediaCorp). He joined TheatreWorks (now T:>Works) as its associate artistic director in 2002.
Tan is well-known for several award-winning plays, including The First Emperor's Last Days, which won the 'Hong Kong Best Ten Productions of The Year Award' in 1998; and Machine and Fear of Writing, both of which won for Best Script at the Life! Theatre Awards in 2003 and 2012 respectively. Fear of Writing has been published by Epigram as a standalone publication, and The First Emperor's Last Days and Machine can be found amongst Tan's other scripts in the Epigram publication Six Plays.
